Wicked Pictures
Wicked Pictures is an American pornographic movie studio headquartered in Canoga Park, California. In 2006 it was described by Reuters as one of the handful of studios that dominate the U.S. porn industry. [1] They are the only heterosexual studio that has maintained a condoms-only policy since 2004.[2]
Company history
Steve Orenstein founded Wicked Pictures in 1993 with help from Brad and Cynthia Willis after developing an interest in the creative aspects of film production while still a partner in his previous adult company, X-Citement Video. During its first year, Wicked won several industry awards and Orenstein signed Chasey Lain as the first "Wicked Girl". The second Wicked Girl, Jenna Jameson, was signed in 1995. Under Wicked's promotion, Jameson became the only person to win the AVN Awards for Best New Starlet, Best Actress, and Best Sex Scene in the same year.[3]
During its first year Wicked Pictures won several industry awards including Best Video Feature & Best Director for the adult comedy, "Haunted Nights," which starred future Wicked contract director Jonathan Morgan, who wouldn't sign on until 1997. Wanting their own in-house producer, Orenstein first hired Brad Armstrong, who has since made many movies that have won industry awards.
As 2000 came around Orenstien signed a deal with California Exotic Novelties to produce adult toys branded with the Wicked Pictures name and designed with input from Wicked contract stars.
2004 came to an end with Wicked Pictures earning 71 AVN nominations and in early spring 2005 Steve Orenstein signed David Stanley on as another contract producer. The year ended with 62 AVN nominations. In 2006, Wicked signed Randy Spears to an exclusive contract as both an actor and director as well as award winning videographer/director François Clousot. The year ended with 102 AVN nominations with over half of them divided between three movies directed by Brad Armstrong - "Manhunters," "Curse Eternal," and "FUCK."
Wicked won the first high definition Adult Video News Award for the title, Camp Cuddly Pines Powertool Massacre, in December 2006.[4] The movie went on to win several AVN awards in 2007.
In October 2010, Wicked stopped production as a precaution when an actor tested positive for HIV.[5]
Wicked Pictures's latest production is "The Rocki Whore Picture Show: An XXX Parody".
